Anti-Ragging Week 2026 Concludes at IMS, BHU, with Strong Message Against Ragging

Banaras Hindu University observed the Anti-Ragging Awareness Week 2026 from August 12 to 18. A series of awareness activities were organised jointly by the Anti-Ragging Squad, BHU, and the Anti-Ragging Squad, Institute of Medical Sciences, to promote a safe, respectful, inclusive and ragging-free campus.
The week-long awareness programme included painting and debate competitions, quiz competitions, awareness rallies, visits to hostels and faculties, and other awareness activities. With the message of “Stand Together, Speak Out, Stop Ragging,” the week-long initiative reflects the collective commitment of BHU and IMS-BHU towards creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment for every student. As part of the opening activities, a Nukkad Natak Competition was organised on August 12 at IMS-BHU, wherein participants conveyed a message against ragging.
The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dean of Students Prof. Ranjan BHU, and Prof. S. N. Sankhwar, Director, IMS-BHU. The activities were coordinated by Prof. Lalit Mohan Agrawal, Chairman, Anti-Ragging Squad, BHU, and Prof. Sunil Kumar Rao, Chairman, Anti-Ragging Squad, IMS-BHU.
During the closing ceremony, students participated in Slogan Writing, Elocution, Poster Making, Logo Design and Skit competitions. Winners were awarded by Chief Guest Prof. S. N. Sankhwar, Director, IMS-BHU. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Sankhwar emphasised the need for zero tolerance towards ragging. He urged students to uphold mutual respect, dignity and compassion.
Guest of Honour Prof. Ranjan Kumar Singh, Dean of Students, highlighted the importance of student participation in the anti-ragging movement and called upon students to contribute towards a safe and supportive campus environment.
Distinguished Guest Prof. Sanjay Gupta, Dean of Modern Medicine, IMS-BHU, stressed the importance of awareness, sensitivity and collective responsibility in preventing ragging.
In his welcome address, Prof. Lalit Mohan Agrawal, Chairman, Anti-Ragging Squad, BHU, reiterated that ragging has no place in the university. Prof. Sunil Kumar Rao, Chairman, Anti-Ragging Squad, IMS-BHU, gave a presentation highlighting the various activities conducted during the Anti-Ragging Week.
In the Elocution Competition, Apoorv Kumar Pandia, IMS, secured First Position; Adarsh Kumar, Faculty of Agriculture (FoA), secured Second Position; and Aaradhya Singh, MMV, secured Third Position. The Skit Competition was a major highlight of the week, with five teams presenting impactful performances conveying messages of friendship, respect, inclusivity and mutual support. Team MBBS secured First Position, while Team TALASYA secured Second Position.
